THE CHALLENGE
Canadian Tire wanted to own the garage storage solution market in Canada. They employed Balance Innovation to help them find opportunities to develop novel solutions that satisfied Canadians' underserved and unmet garage storage needs.
OUR RESPONSE
Balance Innovation developed a research strategy and action plan to learn first-hand the jobs that Canadian homeowners need to get done as they organize their stuff through all four seasons. To accomplish this, Balance:
Conducted in-depth, contextual interviews with Canadians in their homes.
Identified underserved and unmet needs that translated into tools to inform the conceptualization and design of product and service solutions.
Facilitated highly focused and structured ideation to develop concept ideas that satisfy Canadians’ organization needs.
Developed detailed solution concepts and storyboards to communicate the value of the ideas.
Worked alongside the Canadian Tire team to prioritize concepts and develop a roadmap.

Several other products based on concepts Balance created are in production and are scheduled for future release.
THE RESULT
A modular storage platform that will work in any garage, basement, or attic, regardless of whether the room is drywalled or not.
The MOD storage platform is a system of mounts and accessories that help Canadians efficiently store everything from winter tires to hockey equipment and everything in between. Core features and benefits include:
Non-destructive stud mountable wall mount that hugs the stud to stay in place without screws or nails.
The infinitely interchangeable and configurable system that allows the user to reconfigure the space as the seasons change without causing damage to the mounting area.
A roadmap of organization products is slated for release between 2023-2025.
