We are seeking an experienced human-centered Design Researcher to join our dynamic team in Cleveland, Ohio. As part of our team, you’ll work on many different programs with a multitude of clients ranging from B2B, medical, and consumer. We’re looking for full-time and contractors.
A successful candidate will be self-starting, organized, collaborative, and detail-oriented with the ability to see and observe things that most others do not. You will be involved in deep learning that includes ethnography and interviews and will be able to develop key insights about the people around whom we will identify new opportunities and design new experiences. You will be involved in qualitative and quantitative research on a range of programs, and you will skillfully interface with end-users as well as clients.
Plan and conduct human-centered research and work with internal and partner teams on fieldwork, analysis of findings, and insight development
Connect insights to design and collaborate with teammates to create digital tools
Create deliverables, reports, presentations, and content to document insights in an engaging and inspiring way that will help inform the next level of design and creation
Conduct 1on 1 interviews
Analyze existing data and research
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of qualitative research experience with a proven ability to scope research, lead fieldwork, conduct interviews, perform desk research, lead synthesis and communicate findings to stakeholders
Ability to synthesize research findings and to uncover and articulate insights that will inform and inspire design
Exceptional communication and storytelling skills; fluency and confidence in inspiring teammates and partners with user-driven rationale
Ability to learn and utilize the Balance research methodology/approach and suggest alternative approaches related to discrete cases.
Experience using technology and digital methods to uncover needs (e.g.: experience conducting online ethnography, implementing remote user studies, moderating/monitoring online communities, collaborating with developers to build web or digital prototypes to gather feedback, etc.).

Industrial Design Contractor
We are seeking an exceptionally talented Industrial Design contractor to join our team on a project to project basis. The ideal candidate can quickly understand the needs of a project, ramp up quickly and work seamlessly with our team to deliver high-caliber work. Because you are a baller, we will likely ask you for help on more than one project, so time management and the ability to focus is a must.
3-10 years of work experience in Industrial Design
Ability to hit the ground running on a wide variety of types of projects and proven ability to deliver high-caliber work in a short timeframe
Well-rounded knowledge of ID tools and processes:
Strong visual and verbal communication skills (written, spoken, 2D sketching, 2D layout)
Proficient with creating design intent CAD and renderings (Solidworks and Keyshot proficiency are a must)
Highly collaborative and easy to work with
Ability to take feedback from Balance team and their clients
Passion for problem solving and relentless pursuit of perfection
Excellent attention to detail and time management
Ability to work locally preferred but not required
